Project Recaps
2017-2018 English 11 The Crucible Website Project
This was our first attempt in website and movie creation. Students were involved in the entire process--from assignment design to publication.
Students used the Google Sites feature from Google Classroom to build the website, and most groups used WeVideo to edit their video segments. So proud of these students!

2017-2018 Guest Speakers
Throughout first semester visitors regularly speak with students. I had this idea prior to attending the TIW (see ABOUT), but I was really encouraged by the connections and networking I developed there. I will be working with local business sponsors, BestPrep, and some of my own networking connections to bring in businessmen and women, authors, writers, musicians, etc...basically any career is game, and having these individuals share with students some of the opportunities available to them in the workplace, but more importantly in my opinion, share the many ways communication takes place within these careers. Students need to know that the skills they learn in RTR English classrooms connect not only into college, but also into real-world scenarios.

2017-2018 Book Clubs
Quarter 3 and Quarter 4, English 11 and 12 students will be working together to read fiction and non-fiction books. The process began the very first day of the 2017-2018 school year as students worked with Ms Lampert to determine what kinds of books they were interested in reading, and in creating a list of titles which included books the school or Ms Lampert already owned or had access to, and a list of titles which needed ordering.
Throughout 1st Quarter, students were able to watch their selections arrive in the mail and fill the shelf in the back of the classroom. The anticipation was fun to watch. At the end of Quarter 2, students re-read the back of the titles and made their wish-lists for book clubs: their first, second, and third choice selections. Ms. Lampert used this information to divide students into groups as close to their desires as possible; if a specific book club was already filled, a similar title or a title within the student's genre interest was selected.
The first week of Quarter 3 students were eager to discover which book clubs they were assigned. Students reviewed the expectations for the project, which include an online accountability feature. In an effort to help students adjust to an increasingly online work environment, each book club keeps track of their meetings in an online setting--groups choose to create a Google Webpage, a Padlet, or a Google Doc. While only the students in each group can make changes to their own page, their page is visible to others on the net. To view student work, simply follow the blue hyperlinks within the Google Slides assignment description.

Read Alouds for RTR Elementary
During the High School Speech and the College Speech courses, RTR High School students work to diligently manage the basics of overcoming speech anxiety and improve their public speaking skills. Throughout the courses, students benefit from viewing their video-recorded speeches, reflecting on their performances, and setting goals for personal growth. A lovely bonus from this experience includes a series of videos in which high school students read and present children's literature for RTR Elementary students. RTR Elementary teachers* have the opportunity to access these videos at the link above and use them in their classrooms.
*In respect of intellectual property rights and copyright law, videos will only be shared within RTR School District for educational purposes.

Online Learning
English students will be able to access most class materials, including video links and other multi-media materials, via Google Classroom and D2L.
All work submitted on Google Classroom is assigned and graded the same way handwritten work is assigned and graded. It simply offers a more stream-lined method using 21st Century skills.
